An eminently readable book, written by one of the state's top writers. Fowler is a columnist for The Charlotte Observer, and he has a journalist's eye and ear for detail.

He looks for stories about players that Carolina fans adored when they watched them play, but whom, successful or not, have dropped beneath the general public's radar.

Most people not hiding in a cave along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border know about Michael Jordan's achievements after leaving Chapel Hill. But how many people know All-American Charlie Scott was an accomplished sports marketer, or that Roy Williams named his only son "Scott" (in honor of Charlie Scott)?
